Banned Books Week

Banned Books Week runs from September 24 through October 1, 2011.
Quoted below is part of a statement issued by the American Library Association:

Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.

Multicultural Children's Literature

Over the past few days, I've had several students ask me how to find multicultural literature for children and young adults. A few years ago I compiled a 47 page bibliography of such books. Here's the link to that bibliography: http://www.uwosh.edu/library/emc/Bibliographies/multicultural.pdf

Welcome Back to the EMC!

I would like to wish our EMC users a rewarding and enriching school year. If you haven't visited the EMC before, please come on by.

The collections of the EMC primarily serve the needs of UW Oshkosh pre-service teachers and faculty. The EMC houses a superb collection of picture books, fiction & nonfiction for children and young adults. It also has K-12 textbooks, educational software, children's magazines, a collection of books intended for those teaching in the classroom, and a growing collection of award-winning videos.

If you have any questions about the EMC, please contact the EMC Coordinator Stephen Katz at katz@uwosh.edu.
